What started as a makeshift recording setup in Michael McCleary’s bedroom has grown into Shade Tree Music Studio, a creative hub supporting musicians throughout Boynton Beach and beyond.

A musician with local bands Girlfriend Material and Surfer Blood, McCleary taught himself sound engineering through research, experimentation, and years of hands-on experience. In 2009, his passion evolved into a professional studio, providing an affordable place for local musicians to rehearse, record and create. Over the years, Shade Tree has worked with artists including Spred the Dub, Roots Shakedown, The Heavy Pets, The Dreambows, American Sigh, and more.
When rising costs and the pandemic threatened the studio’s future, McCleary found a new home in the Boynton Beach Arts District. With support from the BBCRA and the local music community, he transformed a larger space into the studio it is today, complete with professional recording equipment, rehearsal space and audio repair services.

Today, Shade Tree Music Studio continues its mission of providing professional and amateur musicians with an encouraging place to create, record, rehearse and learn while strengthening Boynton Beach’s growing local music scene.
