Many people are unaware that there is a dedicated unit within the Boynton Beach Police Department that is funded by the Boynton Beach CRA. The Neighborhood Officer Program (NOP) was created in 2015, with the mission to cultivate high levels of mutual trust, understanding, and respect between police and the neighborhoods they patrol by integrating police personnel into the fabric of our local community.

The NOP Unit is comprised of four individuals – Officers Nasim Davis, Heather Brown, Matthew Vazquez, and Carlos Borrero – and overseen by Captain Steven Burdelski. Over the years, the NOP Unit has gained the trust and respect of many individuals within the BBCRA community. Their dedication and genuine desire to help the community is evident in all of the outreach that they offer throughout the year.

Soon the NOP Unit will have a new office located in the Heart of Boynton Shops on East Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. Their brand-new office is a win for the community and essential to support growth and redevelopment of the BBCRA area by developing relationships that transform the confines of ordinary policing.

Although none of the Officers in the NOP Unit would ever refer to themselves as superheroes, or anything close to that status, they deserve recognition and appreciation for their relentless and, many times, selfless efforts.
