What makes a community thrive? It’s people. It’s potential. It’s vision.

In Boynton Beach, the Community Redevelopment Agency is dedicated to driving transformation by turning vision into reality where empty lots become homes, vacant buildings become thriving businesses, and streets become safe and walkable.

OVERVIEW OF THE BOYNTON BEACH CRA

The Boynton Beach CRA, also known as the BBCRA, is a special district created in 1982 to eliminate slum and blight, foster economic development, and improve the quality of life in eastern Boynton Beach. From removing supporting local businesses to developing affordable housing and revitalizing public spaces, the BBCRA has been transforming Boynton Beach for over four decades.

The agency is governed by a Board, made up of the Mayor and City Commissioners, and guided by the mission to invest public funds back into the community through redevelopment plans and strategic projects.

Since the inception, the BBCRA has reinvested millions of dollars into local projects, supported hundreds of businesses, built affordable housing units the local community. Built affordable homes. Helped small businesses flourish. While the numbers may speak for themselves — the real impact is seen in the people whose lives have been changed. Every project boosts property values and enhances the local economy, making Boynton Beach an even better place to live, work, and play!

HOW THE BBCRA IS FUNDED

The BBCRA is funded through Tax Increment Financing. This funding model means property owners don’t pay additional taxes. Instead, as property values rise, a portion of existing city and county taxes collected within the CRA district are reinvested directly back into the community, into the places and people that need it the most. Each year, the CRA Board reviews the budget to determine which projects and programs will continue to contribute towards the CRAs mission to revitalize areas in need of a boost and help the local community thrive.

THE BBCRA AREA

The BBCRA area covers 1,650 acres on Boynton Beach’s eastern edge, encompassing six distinct neighborhoods and commercial districts — each with its own unique character and opportunities. From the bustling corridors of Federal Highway to the quaint charm of the Downtown District, the BBCRA supports growth and revitalization across the board.

The marina is the city’s eastern anchor and a bustling working waterfront. From dining and shopping to fishing charters and jet ski rentals, the marina is a key attraction for locals and visitors alike.
